State House veterans prepare to fight to protect access to abortion in New Hampshire at the point of reproductive rights crisis across the country
CONCORD – Today, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund announced the hiring of three key public affairs staff who will help the organization protect reproductive rights at a time when access to care is threatened at state and federal level. Sara persechino was appointed director of campaigns and communication, Liz Canada continues as an advocate, and Fiona geary joined as a public affairs organizer. New hires join a team of trusted healthcare advocates: Kayla Montgomery, Alyssa Antman, and Ashley Hichborn.

“We’re at a critical juncture – access to a safe and legal abortion is under threat across the country and here in New Hampshire. Sara, Liz and Fiona bring essential skills, experience and energy to our fight to protect reproductive rights at the state level as we grapple with the impact of recent votes to dismantle the family planning program and fund Planned Parenthood health centers in New Hampshire and prepare to implement the ban on unsafe abortion and Governor Sununu’s ultrasound mandate. Together, our team will continue to fight to ensure that every Granite Stater has access to the healthcare they need – including a legal and safe abortion – no matter what.. “
Sara Persechino, Director of Campaigns and Communications, is a longtime Granite Stater and former communications and policy consultant who has worked with a host of nonprofits to advocate for gender equality, protect and expand access to healthcare and end domestic and sexual violence. Previously, Persechino was Director of Policy and Communications for the New Hampshire Senate and Director of Policy and Community Relations at NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire. She received her BA in Communications and Sociology from New England College and her MALS from Dartmouth.
Liz Canada, Advocacy Officer, has been working for Planned Parenthood in New Hampshire for just over a year and brought with them extensive political experience having recently worked for a New Hampshire education think tank for three years. Under Liz’s tutelage, in 2021, the PPNHAF / PPNNE was able to stop or delay a long list of dangerous bills and highlight the dangers of the soon-to-be enacted abortion ban. Liz will manage the 2022 legislative initiatives to advance access to reproductive health care in Granite State, including protecting and expanding access to legal and safe abortion. Liz graduated from BSE. in Secondary Education English from Bloomsburg University, MA in English from Seton Hall University and Ed.M. in Educational Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Fiona Geary, public affairs organizer joined the organizing team in October. Fiona recently graduated from the University of California at Riverside with a BA in Political Science: Law and Society and a former PPNHAF intern. The organizing team, led by Alyssa antman, has grassroots supporters in every county and on three New Hampshire campuses. The organizing team is committed to educating the Granite Staters about the growing decline in reproductive rights, including access to safe and legal abortion and the dismantling of the NH family planning program, and what patients, supporters and defenders can do to retaliate. The PPNHAF also runs a strong digital organization program led by Ashley hichborn.
Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is the largest provider of reproductive and sexual health care for women, men and youth in the state of New Hampshire. We serve New Hampshire residents through 6 health centers in Claremont, Derry, Exeter, Keene, Manchester and White River Junction, VT. In 2020, we saw nearly 11,000 patients at these sites.
