Integrated design company LPA Design Studios today announced the hiring of life sciences veteran Isabel Mandujano as director of laboratory planning. In his new role, Mandujano will support LPA’s growing work in life science facilities for corporate clients, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Mandujano has a long history of creating innovative research and development facilities that support the broader goals of science and innovation. Throughout her career, she has worked with corporate clients to develop sustainable research and development facilities in established life science campuses, as well as to transform existing retail and office spaces into laboratories. that support emerging life science ecosystems.

Mandujano advocates a collaborative design process with laboratory managers and scientists to create efficient, inspiring, sustainable, functional and safe laboratories. She is a frequent speaker at industry events, with a passion for learning and sharing her knowledge of laboratory planning, technology and best practices.
“In my work as a lab planner, I aim to create inspiring spaces for scientists that foster creativity and collaboration,” Mandujano said. “On every project, I believe laboratory design can drive innovation.
Prior to joining LPA, Mandujano held the position of Senior Laboratory Planner in an integrated company specializing in the biotechnology, pharmacy, manufacturing and food and beverage industries.

Highlights of his career include the design of several tenant life science labs at a high-rise life science campus that helped establish a life science center in a large Midwestern city. In addition to developing state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, Mandujano has worked closely with city authorities to develop alternative code approvals for hazardous materials management strategies in this unique building type.
Mandujano has experience in designing professional and institutional laboratories, creating research and teaching laboratories. For the University of Texas at Tyler, she helped design a STEM commercial building in the heart of campus that became a focal point and community center for the campus.
She holds an MA in Architecture from Texas A&M University and a BA in Architecture from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.
