The Friends of Pine Island Library will host an Authors’ Luncheon at the Elks Lodge on Wednesday, February 22 at noon. Join multi-award winning author and storyteller Robert N. Macomber as he tells the true story of “The Patriot and the Widow.” This is a compelling, non-fiction story about a young mixed-race couple who became pro-Union refugees on the island of Useppa in southwest Florida during the American Civil War. It’s a story of love, war, the bittersweet Christmas of 1863 and one woman’s incredible resilience against daunting odds, with a poignant legacy that has endured to this day.
Macomber is a multi-award-winning author, internationally renowned lecturer, former Department of Defense consultant, adventurous expedition leader, accomplished sailor, and reviewer for the New York Journal of Books. He’s been nominated “2020 Florida Writer of the Year” by the FL Writers Association. Its reputation for historical detail, engaging storylines, distinctive characters, helpful maps, detailed bibliographies, and educational endnotes creates avid readers and listeners.
He is best known for his “Honor Series”, the popular maritime thrillers that chronicle the life and career of its protagonist, an American naval officer, Peter Wake, from the American Civil War in Florida, beyond the Spanish-American War in 1898 and into the 1900s.
When he’s not traveling on research treks, lecture tours, or book signings, Macomber enjoys cooking exotic cuisines inspired by his novels and leisurely cruising between remote islands. You can also learn more about https://www.RobertMacomber.com
