College establishes Advisory Council on Communication Sciences and Disorders

MIDDLETOWN, PA – Penn State Harrisburg’s College School of Humanities and the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine have established a Communication Science and Disorders (CSD) Advisory Committee to advise the CSD program at Penn State Harrisburg and contribute to the community’s speech awareness needs – speech pathology, audiology and autism services.

The board, which will hold its first joint meeting in spring 2022 and meet with CSD faculty and students at Penn State Harrisburg, was created by Russell Kirkscey, assistant professor of English and technical and professional writing; Jeffrey Beck, principal of Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities; and three partners from Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health: Dr. David Goldenberg, president of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery; Marie Kurtz, head of speech therapy; and Jill McClelland, manager of audiology.

Board members include:

  • Sheri Brunelli, Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Penn Medicine / Lancaster General

  • Sandra Byrnes, Speech-Language Pathologist at Penn Medicine / Lancaster General Health
  • Erin Cover, Speech Language Pathologist at Lower Dauphin High School
  • Erin Edwards, Clinical Coordinator (Autism Life) in the Department of Psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine / Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
