Carl L. Pawloski, 93, of Deerfield Beach, FL and Meriden, CT, died on October 8, 2021 at Apple Rehab Coccomo. He was the beloved husband of Roberta Pawloski.
Carl was born in New Haven, CT on December 21, 1927, the son of the late Stella and Joseph Pawloski, and moved to Hamden at a young age.
He was a graduate of Hamden High School. He received his BA from American International College, his MA from the University of Bridgeport and his 6th year diploma from the University of Fairfield. He was an accomplished athlete, played varsity golf and college hockey and was signed as a pitcher and played with the Boston Red Sox organization. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.
He started his professional career as a teacher at the Eli Whitney Technical School in Hamden and has served as a guidance counselor, guidance director and deputy director of the school. He then joined the central office of the State Department of Education as a consultant where he led youth employment and training programs until his retirement in 1989. Upon retirement, he and Roberta became residents of Deerfield Beach, Florida in 2006 and spent their summers in Connecticut.
He enjoyed great success as a golfer, winning tournaments in Holyoke and Northampton in Massachusetts and at the Wallingford Country Club where he was a long-time member and was also a member of the club’s board of governors. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and a member of the BPOE Elks, Hamden Chapter.
Besides his wife Roberta, he is survived by his nieces and their spouses. Linda Remillard from Berlin, Gail Johnson from Laconia, NH, Debra Donnan from Meriden, JoAnn and Thomas Anderson from North Haven and her nephew and wife, Joseph and Jill Pawlowski from Wallingford. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Pawlowski, his sister, Barbara Johnson and his nephew, Paul Pawlowski.
His family will receive relatives and friends at Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. Tuesday October 12, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Christian burial mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. directly at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Interment will be private. Please note that masks must be mandatory at the funeral home and at the church. The family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab for the care they provided to Carl. Donations in memory of Carl can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
